First Lolli
I have a few lollipops in the cabinet that Gabe bought to bring to the hospital when I was giving birth (lolli's don't go bad). Penny is very interested in them and I have been steering her away. But yesterday I figured what the heck, let's see if she really wants one. After a bit of explaining and showing by example - "don't bite", "lick like this", "mmm, yummy, right?", she got the hang of it.

And she even put it in the cup I gave her to use when she was finished with it twice before it ended up on the couch :).

Easter 2014
Our own Easter Bunny:

We didn't have any plans for Easter this year other that decorating eggs with Penny and giving her a little basket. So it was a nice suggestion from Gabe the we try to have Easter Brunch. It gave us an excuse to dress Miss Penelope in her Sunday finest, a birthday present from Jessie that still fits:

Dada and Penny out the door. It was a picture-perfect sunny day:

We were able to get a reservation at The Magic Flute which is quite conveniently up the street from us. We were seated at a nice corner table by the window so we were able to look out on the beautiful day while enjoying our brunch.
[gallery type="rectangular" ids="6179,6180,6183,6182,6181"]

And the silly version:

Self-timer up on our neighbor's stoop:
[caption id="attachment_6207" align="alignnone" width="480"]
"Um, Mom, why are you leaving the camera there?"[/caption]
Once home I wanted to get one last Easter dress pic with my girl. And boy am I glad I did.
[caption id="attachment_6205" align="alignnone" width="920"]
Compliments to the photographer, Dada :).[/caption]
This picture fills me with happiness. It's also very similar to last year's.
Then we changed into our egg dyeing outfits:

[caption id="attachment_6193" align="alignnone" width="560"]
She is playing with last years' eggs. They are ceramic (Eggnots), so we could keep them as a memory of her first easter.[/caption]
Before we got to the egg coloring we gave Penny her Easter Basket. I filled it with little trinkets I thought she would enjoy: finger puppets, a wind-up bunny and of course, "beeaaads!"

Then it was time to do some dyeing. Penny watched while Dada got started.

Then she tried her hand (literally):

She seemed to be most content observing and playing with the goodies from her basket.

[caption id="attachment_6198" align="alignnone" width="560"]
The final product.[/caption]
While Penny napped Gabe prepared a delicious dinner of salmon and roasted potatoes and asparagus. We all sat down together and read an Easter prayer before our meal.

What a wonderful day we had. A Happy Easter indeed!

Passover 2014
We celebrated Passover in a very abbreviated way last Sunday evening. With me traveling that week, I didn't prepare as I had hoped (and clearly my calendar was off as the first night of Passover was Monday) . But we read quickly from the Haggadah and pointed to the pictures of the Seder plate. There was Charoset and wine and a Festive Meal that we all shared. The matzoh ball soup turned out more like matzoh mush soup but it still tasted good, so that's what matters.
We want to continue acknowledging our holidays with Penny so she has a sense of tradition. It may not have been as organized as her first, but we still had a nice evening, and a family dinner together.

Reunited
For weeks we have been missing the father from the Fisher Price family. We were sad about it but assumed he would show up eventually. Well today he was discovered behind Gabe's TV (along with a couple of dusty Goldfish crackers)!
Now the family is back together…

…and according to Penny they want to hang out in the bathroom :).

Friday Hi: Ut Oh Edition
Note to self, don't let Penny play with the Splenda.

That's why they invented The Dustbuster.

At least she spared me one for my morning cup.

Tita Keese Visits
Last weekend Tita Keese was in the Bay Area for an event and was able to make it to us on Sunday evening and spend the day with me and Penny on Monday. It was great to have her around.

21 Months Old
Everyday brings something new with Penny. She is learning and mimicking so many things:
She closes her eyes, and says "Nih nih" and pretends to sleep.
[gallery type="rectangular" ids="6088,6087"]
We tickle her on her palms, she hates/loves it :). Pulls away but giggles all the same.
Instead of crawling up the stairs, she now wants to walk up, holding the railing with one hand and my hand with the other.
Boo is her faithful companion. She will ask for him often. Roh-jay usually comes too :).
Sings a lot- including Ice, Ice Baby (Ah Be Baba) and the Alphabet Song (doesn't get all the letters by herself but has that tune almost down pat), plus the themes from Sponge Bob Square Pants, Dora the Explorer and Strawberry Shortcake. She also sings Pop Goes The Peevay based on a song Gabe made up about what's for dinner :).
Knows that the frog says "ribbit".
She knows that The Terminator says… "I'll be back."
She will say "Peepeeboo!" and covers her eyes with her hands.
She knows Nono and Nanay in the pictures we have in our bedroom.
She is understanding the concept of us having things - like "Mommy nose" and "Dada eye".
Other new words and phrases:
- Dada home?
- Mommy hi.
- Shiwy (silly) and gets all goofy
[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TmF-1rjiiGg?rel=0&w=853&h=480&rel=0]
- Cawpee (coffee). She also helps me make it in the mornings, we count the scoops and she closes the lid and presses the button to start the maker.
- Cwayzy (crazy)
- Yoyo (yogurt), currently one of her favorite foods.
- Knows the concepts of "reach" and "up"
- Baybel (bagel)
- Shoes
- Momato (tomato)
- Bropowi (broccoli)
I used to say to her "Penny, I have a secret. Do you know what it is? I love you!" Now I say "I have a secret and she says "Iwuwoo!"
She says "da bye" a lot, usually while pointing to something, but we have no idea what it means :(.
Still loves her beads, even more so now that we put on the little plush Hello Kitty Aunt Jen sent her. They are now her "mee-um beads".
Penelope's bottom back molars are coming in. She doesn't seem phased in the slightest. Gabe noticed while brushing her teeth.
She knows all the kids names at daycare:
Cade
Kabi (Kavi)
Mimi (Macin)
Mamu (Miles)
Adum (Adam)
Penny has told me twice now that she had a poo poo in her diaper. Not quite ready for potty training but it's on the horizon, we're sure.
Miss Penelope has become a 'challenging' eater. She is quite picky these days, one day she likes something, then the next day, know way. And recently most meals end with food being thrown on the floor.
I gave her her first time out the other evening for dumping her whole, full bowl of grapes on the floor. Usually cheese and yogurt are staples. Can't say she's not getting enough calcium.
Penny still sleeps very well. On days she is home, she has 2 naps, at Ana's she has one. She sleeps for about 10 or so hours at night and usually wakes with a smile on her face.
She will often chat to herself while falling asleep and we hear her in the morning starting her day that way. It's adorable.
Happy 21, sweet girl. Keep on being you.
Bedtime Chatter
A couple of months ago I took some video of Penny falling asleep on the baby monitor. She had just started chatting to herself as she fell asleep and I wanted to capture it. It’s too sweet. Apologies for background noise. Gabe was doing some straightening up and the sound from her noise machine adds a little fuzz, too.
Listen for her saying bye-bye to everyone, including Dada, Nina and Doh (or "Star"), the characters from the Goodnight Show on Sprout).

Ella and Pax
New friends Mommy brought home for Penny from Boston.

Ella the Elephant and Pax the Puppy.
They aren't really competition for Boo and Ro-jhay, but a nice addition to our stuffed animal family :).
