Boo boos and Boogies
Penny got her first cold of the season this weekend. She has a runny nose and has been stuffy and phlegmy.

And sneezy.

Gabe and I have picked it up, so we are a family of sickies.
Penny also had a little spill on Sunday in our bedroom and hit her head on the dresser we have the TV on. Poor girl has a bruise and little marks from the bamboo-esk detail on the dresser leg where she made contact.

Luckily it wasn't anything worse and after some serious crying she seemed to be just fine, other than the bruise, and cold.

Poppy and Jessie's Visit
Last weekend Poppy and Jessie came to visit.

[gallery type="square" ids="4544,4543"]
We had a great time - lots of laughs, hugs and kisses. Eating , reading and playing.[gallery type="square" ids="4536,4535"]
Being silly with Jessie:

Poppy got in on the feeding action, too.[/caption]
We visited the Ferry Building. The weather was lovely.

Saturday night Scott and Jenni came over to watch Penny while we went to Spruce for dinner.

Dinner was an early Anniversary celebration for Gabe and I, and a delicious meal.
On Sunday, while Gabe spent some time at the office, we 4 went to a few open houses in Sea Cliff. We were definitely dream 'shopping' but it was a lot of fun, and Penny really seemed to enjoy walking around these new, large spaces.
Having Poppy and Jessie visit was wonderful. Even though we Skype every week with Poppy, it was a treat to have him here in person, to really get a chance to see Penny in all her adorable glory. And for Penny to spend some quality time with her Poppy. We look forward to December when we hope to see them in Maryland around Christmas time.

Pumpkin Patch 2013

On Saturday we visited Clancy's Pumpkin Patch. It's the same one we visited last year but we think Penny got a bit more out of it this time... maybe because she was awake? :).
She was definitely a little cautious as first, not really sure what to make of this place. She planted her feet and didn't really seem like she was too interested in exploring. We thought she's love having the open space to walk free but maybe the straw underfoot threw her a bit, plus a new place and much to take in.
[gallery type="square" ids="4493,4494"]
But she started getting a bit more into it and gave the pumpkins some love.
[gallery type="square" ids="4497,4503,4496,4495,4502"]
We went on a hayride which was fun. A lot to point at and straw to play with.
[gallery type="square" ids="4506,4508,4509"]
We brought home an orange and white gourd and a white pumpkin which I plan on painting a face.
We had a wonderful afternoon of family time and the start of our Halloween season.

15 Months Old
Penny is 15 months old today.

Here are some highlights--
• Penny says baby and Mommy, yum yum, whispers Poppy, says Nana (for Nono) and appy, which we discovered is apple when she pointed to a picture in one of her books and said "appy".
[caption id="attachment_4481" align="alignnone" width="336"]
Also pointed to this picture in a circular and said "appy". I was still impressed.[/caption]
• Leans in for kisses with her lips and will stay there and breathe heavy through her nose.
• Raises her hands up to her shoulders as if to say "oh well", or "all gone" or "I don't know"... she did it when I asked her where the monkey was on a page in her book.
• Knows where her hair, nose and ears are, as well as her feet and her gut. She will rub it when asked.
• Penny has 4 more teeth coming in, the upper canines are starting to break through and the lowers are almost there. Once in, she'll only have 4 more to go and then she'll have all her baby teeth.
• Pats us on the arm or leg as if to say, "hi, I'm here". Gabe also calls it the Vote of Confidence :).
• Will repeat what the doggie says if it's her Lucky the Dalmatian Puppy.
• We think Penny is getting slightly frustrated with not being able to tell us what she wants. And she definitely knows what she wants!

Ocean Beach Day
After our great afternoon at China Beach last week, we wanted to go again, but this time be better prepared with bathing suits and towels. So we got all packed up and headed over, forgetting it would be closed due to the government shutdown. But Ocean Beach was not closed, so we drove a little bit further and enjoyed another great afternoon, this time with official water and sand play!

First Time In the Pool
From when we traveled to Colorado in June....

We were so excited to take Penny into the pool for this first time at the hotel. I wasn't sure if she would like it but I was pretty confident she wouldn't object.
When we first took her in I'm not sure she know what to make of it:
But she soon realized that she could splash, and that was all it took:
[gallery type="square" ids="4414,4413,4415"]

Also...take note of the second video above at 0:30.
In case you didn't catch it...

The funniest involuntary reaction to getting splashed by her cousin ever.

China Beach

We took Penny to the beach on Saturday. It wasn't our first time, but it was to this particular beach. China Beach is a bit of a hidden gem. Only 11 minutes from our apartment, it is in the beautiful neighborhood of Sea Cliff. It feels like it should a be a private beach for the stunning houses around it but luckily for us it is public. It is also quite small so good for the kiddies.

Although we have taken Penny to the beach before it was the first she walked on the sand and let the waves hit her feet. We weren't dressed for swimming, so that's as far as we went in but if she had her way we would have gone in further. She did not hesitate to walk right up to the water. Whether it was curiosity or a lack of fear, this kid wanted in.

Next time we will be better prepared with bathing suits and towels and our own sand toys.
We hope that next visit will be soon. Now that we've discovered this little beach we want to make sure we can take advantage of it before the weather gets too cool.
